Info for Parents!

This page will be updated periodically as we get new information.

Transformix Warehouse

We will be moving our operations to the warehouse of a local engineering firm Transformix starting probably Saturday morning until we crate the robot late Tuesday. We will be joining the team from KCVI high school who will have a mock-up of the playing field built. We will be working 9:00am –> 10:00 pm for those days. For meals we will be going to local restaurants so make sure you bring money! Also bring sturdy footwear, preferably steel-toed boots if you have them. The Transformix plant is up on Gardiners road near the Lowe’s

Build Season Schedule

Over the next 6 weeks we will try to stick to this schedule. By no means is your child required to be here for every minute of this, but these are the hours that there will be people at the school working. Towards the end of the build season when we get down to the crunch, especially on Family Day weekend, we will likely extend these hours.

Monday: 2:30 – 6:00
Tuesday: 2:30 – 9:00
Wednesday: 2:30 – 6:00
Thursday: 2:30 – 9:00
Friday: 2:30 – 9:00
Saturday: 10:00 – 6:00
Sunday: No Meeting

Important Dates

Update – Jan 20 – Due to financial reasons we have had to make the difficult decision to withdraw from the Waterloo regional. The only competition we are attending is Montreal with the possibility of advancing to the Worlds.

The Kickoff Event will be on Saturday January 7th at KCVI Highschool starting at 9:00AM and running until around 6:00PM. The parking lot doors will be open. There will be a Potluck lunch, so bring something to share! Parents are more than welcome to attend! Note that the team will also be meeting for a full day on Sunday January 8th at Frontenac Secondary School. We will decide as a group at Kickoff what time we want to meet in the morning.

The team will have a social community event of skating at City Hall Rink, downtown on Saturday January 21st. The plan is to stop work at the school at 5:00 (an hour early) and head over to the skating rink. This is a chance for everybody to socialize outside of the classroom, so would love to have parents, siblings, friends, dogs, etc come out to this! There is skate rental at the rink (so I’ve been told) and there are lots of restaurants in the area so we will likely go for a team dinner afterwards! Hope to see you there!

Bag & Tag day marks the end of the build season and is on Tuesday February 21. On this day we have to place the robot in a large plastic bag and stop working on it. Note that this is the day after Family Day.

The Montreal Regional Event will be Thursday March 15th to Saturday March 17th 2012 at the Uniprix Stadium in Montreal, QC. Note that this coincides with the FSS spring break. We’ll have more details closer to the event, but we will likely be leaving Kingston Wednesday afternoon and returning late Saturday night. More information can be found at the event website here.

If we qualify, the Championship Event will be Thursday April 26th to Saturday April 28th 2012 at the Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. We will not know if we have qualified until after the regional events and so we will have more information then. We would likely rent a coach bus for the trip and all are welcome to addend! Thinking forward to this event, make sure your family has passports (any passport will do, does not have to be Canadian).

You and your family are invited to travel and stay with the team for any events! The regionals are full of life and energy, an amazing experience for all ages! It is also a great chance to experience first-hand what your kid has been getting so excited about.
